Healthy and Sustainable principles
Although energy is one of the most common items that people think of within the “green” umbrella, creating healthy and sustainable homes and communities involves more than energy efficiency. A holistic approach to greening considers the full spectrum of ways that individuals and organizations can impact the environment as well as human health and well-being. The following principles provide a more complete picture of the steps needed to create the healthy and sustainable homes and communities. NeighborWorks Umpqua, NeighborWorks America and the NeighborWorks network seek to achieve:
Energy Efficiency
Water Conservation
Healthy Indoor Environments
Recycling and Waste Reduction
Accessibility and Walkability
Environmentally Friendly Landscapes
Sustainable Materials and Products, Durability, and
the Life Cycle Approach
