Resident Services Plans and Events
NeighborWorks Umpqua has Resident Services Plans for each of its multifamily residential complexes, designed to suit the unique needs of each individual site. Many sites feature a Community Resource Center that provides information and access to local social services available to them. In addition, Financial Fitness workshops, the ABC's of Homebuying class, and the DreamSavers program are offered, along with social gatherings, youth programs, and other activities and events.
Holiday Giving Program for Tenants
Each holiday season, NeighborWorks Umpqua provides food, clothing, toys, and other items to all of its tenants. During NeighborWorks Week our residents participate in community improvement activities, such as planting flowers at each site.
Resident Councils
NeighborWorks Umpqua Resident Councils are advisory committees composed of residents, managers, and community leaders, focuses on developing leadership skills and advising NeighborWorks Umpqua Board of Directors on resident issues. They are informed of Board issues and proceedings, enabling them to pass this information on to tenants. The Resident Council helps to develop onsite community plans addressing the needs of each complex, and makes recommendations for programs, amenities, and services for new housing developments.
Leadership Training for Tenants
Every other year, members of the Resident Councils are offered Community Leadership Training through NeighborWorks America. This enables resident members the opportunity to travel to sites across the country in order to network and brainstorm with residents from the Western States Region. All expenses are paid for the participants who then learn how others deal with similar issues to take a pro-active role in their communities. In October 2011, our group will be traveling to Houston, Texas, for training.
