Roseburg, OR and Coos Bay, OR (March 8, 2019) NeighborWorks Umpqua is excited to announce the opening of its tax preparation and filing service in Roseburg and Coos Bay began in February. Interested persons looking to take part in their Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Preparation service for this upcoming tax season can now schedule an appointment online at nwumpqua.org/taxes or through the phone at 1-877-527-5630. NeighborWorks Umpqua has expanded the number of ways that the public can interact with the second year service.
“We are excited to be in our second year of partnering with the IRS to open these sites and serve our community,” explains Michelle Martin, Director of Community and Economic Development with NeighborWorks Umpqua. “We are looking to improve upon our record-setting impact from last year by increasing the number of ways to participate in the service. From standard appointments to self-filing stations to drop off services now available, these volunteer-led tax sites are looking to improve participations in tax credits like the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) that are often missed.”
According to the Senate Majority Office with the Oregon State Legislature, in 2013 – the most recent year of available statistics – Oregon’s participation with EITC was 74 percent, falling well below the 80-percent national average. NeighborWorks Umpqua hopes to increase that number by helping individuals file their taxes and participate in the EITC along with other tax credits that could be missed.
The tax preparation sites are now open and will stay open until April 13, 2019. In order to participate, you can call and reserve a spot or utilize our online scheduler, as we anticipate heavy customer participation. Those interested in securing a spot or seeing where our sites are located, should visit nwumpqua.org/taxes or call 1-877-527-5630.
