Rental Assistance Fund Alleviates Rental Payment Anxiety
During the COVID-19 crisis lower-income working families are struggling; struggling to provide childcare or home school learning for their children; struggling to make financial ends meet because of layoffs and reduced hours, and unexpected expenses. The closure of businesses means that banking, grocery shopping, laundry, social service appointments, and other services that require transportation have become even less accessible. For many families who live in our properties, these challenges mean they will not have the funds to make full rent payments for the foreseeable future. NWU does not want to add to the undue duress of fear of eviction to these families’ concerns. The current eviction moratorium only suspends the challenges that renters face if their back-rent piles up.
In response to COVID-19 and the economic impact it has had on our residents, we have set up a new Rental Assistance Fund to help alleviate anxiety about rental payments from our residents. Through the fund, residents may seek financial assistance that would pay half of their rent for up to two months.
