Coos County Homeowners, Do You Need Help with Mortgage Payments and Utilities Because of COVID-19?

The Coos County Mortgage and Utility Assistance Program is
Now Accepting Applications

Homeowners in Coos County may qualify for up to 6 months of mortgage and utility payments per household (only past due mortgage, property taxes, insurance, late fees, and utilities; utility assistance may include electric and heat). Assistance goes directly to loan servicers, tax assessor, and utility companies.

Who should apply? 

Homeowners in Coos County that:

  • Meet the program’s income limits (view income table below to determine if your household meets program income limits).
  • Are seeking assistance for their primary, owner-occupied residence in Coos County, Oregon.
  • Have experienced a loss of income due to COVID-19 (due to COVID-19 infection, inability to work due to compromised immune system, loss of childcare, or other related factors).
  • Have received a late mortgage payment notice from their loan servicer or a notice of unpaid property taxes from the Coos County Assessor.
  • Have mortgage or property tax arrears that do not exceed $20,000, were not incurred prior to April of 2020, and are not being paid by any other assistance program.

Mortgage Assistance

Dear Coos County, Oregon Homeowner, 

You are not alone! 

We understand that being behind on your mortgage can be a difficult life experience, and that  COVID-19 has presented homeowners with unprecedented challenges. If you are a Coos County  homeowner and you have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, NeighborWorks Umpqua  is here to help through the Coos County Mortgage Assistance Program. We currently have  Community Development Block Grant funding through the Cares Act and Business Oregon to  help you get caught up on your mortgage, property taxes, and utilities. 

Only past due mortgage payments, property taxes, insurance, and late fees will be paid by  the Coos County Mortgage and Utility Assistance Program, for a total of up to 6 months of  arrears. Arrears cannot have been incurred earlier than April 2020.  

Payments cannot be a duplication of benefits already received for the same time period.  Applicants must disclose other local, state, and federal mortgage assistance applied for. Applicants are not allowed to utilize assistance from multiple sources for the same months.  Applicants will be required to repay funds if duplicate benefits are received. 

To be eligible for Coos County CDBG-CV Mortgage and Utility Assistance, you must answer  ‘yes’ to all of the following statements:

Does your total household monthly gross income fall within the limits for your household size as described in the table above?

If you answered ‘yes’ to all of the above questions, please fill out the below preliminary  application for CDBG-CV Mortgage Assistance. An intake specialist will contact you as soon as  possible to assist you in accessing our HUD-certified foreclosure intervention program and  determine your eligibility for CDBG-CV mortgage assistance. 

There is no cost to you for any of our default intervention services!
